At the end of May 2010, Europe Days took place in Mariupol. Perhaps for the first time in history, our city welcomed Ambassadors and representatives of 18 European countries. They came to discuss current issues concerning the dynamics of European integration processes, the principles of operation of the European Union, the operation of the visa regime, the need to create free economic zones in Ukraine and develop the infrastructure of the Ukrainian economy.
The Days of Europe in Mariupol were opened by a meeting of the mayor Yuriy Hotlubey with the Ambassadors and a delegation of heads of diplomatic missions led by the head of the EU mission to Ukraine, Jose Manuel Pinto Teixeira. Yuriy Hotlubey spoke about the features of the socio-economic development of the large metallurgical center of Ukraine. The city's development prospects include economic diversification. It is no secret that the investment climate in Ukraine continues to be far from easy. But, in Mariupol, the mayor called us to an open heate and this is a chance to speed up the European integration processes.

Meanwhile, on the main avenue of the city there is a string of tents with national treats from European countries, and ambassadors readily meet with local authorities - this is considered honorable in Ukraine. Over the past eight years, residents of many regional cities have taken part in such Euro-actions. This year, Europe came to the city of regional subordination. The distinguished guests walked along the avenue. We tasted the dishes national cuisines, visited the youth parliament tent.
It is difficult to figure out whether Europe has visited us, or we are in it. But the impressions are, of course, unforgettable. The representation of each state did everything possible to ensure that Mariupol residents felt the national spirit of European countries and discovered a piece of Europe. The finale of the holiday was a concert. Ukrainian performers gave their all 100%. After the performance, Kuzma Scriabin shared his impressions. According to him, Mariupol surprised first of all with its cleanliness.

Europe Days are being held in Ukraine for the fourth time. As Podrobnosti reported, this year record number 27 countries (EU members and candidate countries) took part in the events and presented the European Union in Kyiv.
"Europe Day - 2006" was held in Kyiv on May 20, in Zaporozhye it will take place on May 26, in Kharkov - on May 28. In Mariupol, a number of events were scheduled for last Saturday. But the celebration in our city was modest.
On Theater Square a job fair and a concert took place, artistic groups universities of Mariupol, others educational institutions And creative teams cities performed performances right next to the drama theater. Off-site trading was organized - at three points on the square employees of Markomprod sold drinks, sweets and food, off-site trading was organized by the Natalka store. On the same day there was to be a concert in the City Garden. And it has already begun. However, it was prevented by bad weather.
This time the holiday in Mariupol was modest. No pop stars came from Kyiv or Moscow, there was no fair of local producers. Perhaps this is for the best: since the beginning of May, the holidays have been coming one after another. Or maybe it’s time for us not to do Europe Days, but to become Europe?
