It was then that I had the opportunity to examine the structure of the basket in detail. Now I’ll tell you what it all looks like there, and along the way we’ll draw a basket.
How to draw a wicker basket step by step
Baskets are woven from willow twigs, which are either cleared of bark or left as is. At the base are several long rods, like a star, diverging from the center of the bottom. Reminds meridians of the globe. The rods playing the role of latitudes are threaded between them. It is clear that a very big difficulty for basket makers is the need to hide the ends of the rods - and the craftsmen cope with this! The basket looks very neat, like a factory product.
I begin to draw a container with a pencil, it is approximately cylindrical.
I draw a vertical axis of symmetry, designating the sides and top edge. When viewed from the side, the round edge of the basket looks like an oval due to the perspective cuts. This is all quite clear to us adults, but when drawing with children, when it comes to perspective distortions and abbreviations, I consider it necessary to show and explain everything in detail every time. On top is an arc handle. I specially placed the basket so that this handle was not frontal, but three-quarters, so to speak, it looks more interesting.
